(initramfs) unable to find a live medium containing a live file system when booting TAILS

(initramfs) unable to find a live medium containing a live file system

Had this error when trying to boot the TAILS operating system for the first time. Apparently, there’s an issue with some older SanDisk Cruzer USB sticks where they identify themselves as fixed disks rather than removable media.

In order overcome the above error and proceed with booting TAILS from an older SanDisk Cruzer stick, hit the <TAB> key at the boot prompt. You’ll see, at the foot of the screen, a series of default switches passed to the boot loader. Arrow key back to the media=removable option and delete it. Ensure you keep the space between successive parameters. Hit <RETURN> and TAILS should continue booting per usual. It can be a little slow to boot, particularly from older USB sticks, so be patient.

  1. Hey, great post!

It worked for me. I just went inside the boot parameters by pressing [TAB] and then removed the `media=removable` part of the boot options.

It is working perfectly and flawlessly. Thanks for the help.
